Troubleshooting Guide – Common Concerns

Application Checks
- Confirm the LVC model number before troubleshooting. The model number is printed in the upper left corner of the unit.
- Verify the application does not exceed the available number of loads for the selected LVC.
- If more than three loads need to be controlled, verify that the application has been designed using the appropriate combination of LVCs.
- For healthcare beds, pillow speakers, or wall switches, verify that the switching device provides the required normally-open momentary dry-contact input.
- If the LVC behavior differs from another installation, verify the model-specific operating mode and DIP-switch settings before concluding that the unit is malfunctioning.
- For applications using Smooth Dimming, verify that the patient station/switching device is compatible with the required sustained-press behavior.
No lights at all/controller appears dead
- Verify wiring against the applicable model diagram
- Make sure a toggle switch is not in the wiring path
- Ensure that the switch is a momentary dry contact
- Verify the applied voltage is 120 or 277 VAC as specified on the product label.
- Verify the LVC model is appropriate for the application and number of loads.
- If possible, determine whether the issue affects all loads or only one load.
- Verify the lighting fixture/driver/ballast is compatible with the
One light/load works but another doesn't
- Check the wiring against the diagram for the model below. The LVC model number is in the upper left corner of the unit.
- Ensure that the switch is a momentary dry contact
- Verify which load is affected (Load 1, Load 2, or Load 3).
- If one switch works but another does not, determine whether the problem follows the switch or remains with the load.
- Verify that all switches controlling the same LVC are wired in parallel.
The switch input is not activating the corresponding load.
- Check the wiring against the diagram for the model below. The LVC model number is in the upper left corner of the unit.
- Ensure that the switch is a momentary dry contact.
- Verify the applied voltage is 120 or 277 VAC as specified on the product label.
- Ensure the driver/ballast/load is compatible with the applied voltage.
- Does the switch operate another load?
The lights are not dimming in Step Dimming Mode
- Ensure that the lighting fixture is equipped with a dimming driver compatible with 0-10VDC dimming.
- Verify the LVC is configured for the intended dimming mode and the correct DIP-switch settings are selected
- Set the LVC to step dimming by selecting the correct mode. Refer to the Modes link for the relevant dip switch settings for each function.
- Confirm that the affected load is Load 1 or Load 2; Load 3 is on/off only.
Note: Dimming capability is only available on loads 1 and 2.
The lights are not dimming in Smooth Dimming Mode
- Ensure that the lighting fixture is equipped with a dimming driver compatible with 0-10VDC dimming.
- Verify the LVC is configured for the intended dimming mode and the correct DIP-switch settings are selected
- Set the LVC to smooth dimming by selecting the correct mode. Refer to the Modes link below for the appropriate dip switch settings for each behavior.
- Verify that the patient station is compatible with smooth dimming. Please refer to the Modes link for the corresponding LVC model for detailed instructions on how to verify.
- Activate the switch properly: a sustained press lasts over 0.5 seconds, while On/Off occurs when released within 0.5 seconds.
- Confirm that the affected load is Load 1 or Load 2; Load 3 is on/off only.
Note: Dimming capability is only available on loads 1 and 2.
Lights do not turn on when in Smooth Dimming Mode
Some dimming drivers and ballasts can take a moment to turn on. Users should briefly press the light switch to let it fully power up before dimming.
LVC is set in the proper mode but lights become “out of sync” after multiple switch activations
Ensure that all switches are wired in parallel.
Use only momentary switches, as LVC is not compatible with toggle switches. Non-compatible switches will disrupt the sequence.
